There are moments in your career that truly remind you why you love what you do. Being invited to judge the Aesthetics category at the North East Hair & Beauty Awards was definitely one of those moments for me.
As the aesthetics industry in the UK continues to grow, awards like the North East Hair & Beauty Awards play an important role in recognising talented professionals who are raising standards in treatments, client safety, and education.
The hair and beauty sector is full of incredibly talented professionals, but the aesthetics field in particular has seen huge growth in recent years. With new treatments, evolving techniques, and an increasing focus on safety and ethical practice, the standard of entries this year was genuinely impressive.
Judging the Aesthetics Category at the North East Hair & Beauty Awards
Judging an aesthetics category isn’t just about looking at before-and-after photos. As part of the North East Hair & Beauty Awards judging panel, it’s about assessing the skill, professionalism, knowledge, and ethics behind each practitioner’s work.
Every submission represents someone’s passion, training, and dedication to their clients. When reviewing entries for the aesthetics category, I focused on several key factors:
Quality and consistency of treatment results
Client safety and consultation procedures
Understanding of facial balance and natural outcomes
Professional development and advanced aesthetics training
Overall patient experience and ethical practice
In modern aesthetics, the goal should always be to enhance natural beauty rather than overcorrect or follow unrealistic trends. It was refreshing to see so many practitioners prioritising subtle, balanced results and putting client wellbeing first.

One of the most inspiring parts of judging was seeing just how much talent exists within the North East beauty and aesthetics community.
Many practitioners are pushing the industry forward by investing in advanced training, continued education, and safe aesthetic practices. From detailed case studies to carefully planned treatment journeys, the entries showed a high level of professionalism across the board.
